A Great Place to Ski

Skiing in True Alpine

Saint Nicolas la Chapelle – Is an authentically Savoyard village in the Aravis chain of mountains in the French Alps, overlooking the Val d'Arly.  The village is only minutes by car from the renowned winter and summer mountain ski resorts of Flumet and Praz sur Arly.  You can find all the mountain activities you want close-by.  Megeve (10 minutes away) and Les Saisies offer alpine and Nordic skiing, racket walking, ice skating & snow scooters.   All of these activities await you in some of the most spectacular mountain scenery you will experience.  The village is located only 1hr 20 minutes from Geneva Airport and 30 minutes from Albertville.  We are in the best position to discover many of the best known ski resorts in the French Alps.  The local ski resort altitudes are between 1200 and 2500 meters.
Saint Nicolas la Chapelle

The chalet is ideally situated to gain access to the Espace Diamant ski area, views of which can be seen from the chalet.   The Espace Diamant ski area covers 185 km of slopes and incorporates 5 resorts: Les Saisies, Crest Voland, Notre Dame de Bellecombe, Flumet and Praz sur Arly.  The ski area caters for all levels of skier, from beautiful tree lined green paths to steep blacks and powder bowls.

There are plans in the near future to link the Espace Diamant ski area to the international ski resort of Megeve. This will offer a further 445 kilometres of pistes with 205 different runs for skiers of all levels.  Megeve has a modern high speed lift system and the pistes’ are well maintained with 405 snow canons.

In total, we have over 600 km’s of piste available to us which we feel makes this one of the largest undiscovered ski areas in the world and you discovered it first at True Alpine!

Flumet which is only a few minutes drive from the chalet has more than 40 km’s of safe well marked runs for all levels and it sits at the gateway to the above mentioned resorts

If you exhaust the Espace Diamant and Megeve ski areas’ or want to explore other resorts why not try one of our ski excursions to Les Clusaz, Chamonix, Flaine or even Meribel.  We have many options available for you.

The Resorts

Flumet is the centrepiece in a resort network of three linked ski areas lining the Val d'Arly, the valley linking Albertville with Chamonix.  Between them, the Val d'Arly resorts – Flumet, Notre Dame de Bellecombe and Praz sur Arly have 50 lifts and 150km of largely intermediate pistes, all of which can all be skied on a Carte Blanche lift ticket. Flumet has ten lifts of its own, serving predominantly blue and green trails.  http://www.flumet-montblanc.com

Praz sur Arly is the second resort you come to in the picturesque Val d'Arly when you drive from Albertville to Chamonix.  With 12 lifts and skiing up to almost 2,000m at Ban Rouge, Praz sur Arly is linked with two other resorts – Flumet and Notre Dame de Bellecombe – to form the Domain Val d'Arly. This is a network of 50 lifts serving 150km of largely intermediate pistes all of which can all be skied on a Carte Blanche lift ticket.  http://www.prazsurarly.com

Notre Dame de Bellecombe, a typical Savoyard village, is the largest of a long chain of linked resorts in the Val d'Arly – a pleasant valley, famous for its cheeses and wine, not far from Megeve – in the heart of the Savoie Alps. The valley links Albertville with Chamonix. Most of the Domaine Val d'Arly is enjoyable cruising, giving you plenty of time to admire the scenery. Notre Dame has its own network of 70km of pistes served by 18 lifts. http://www.notredamedebellecombe.com

Crest Voland is a fairly small resort and part of the Espace Crystal area.  Although quite a reasonable size (110km of pistes), it is largely for beginners and intermediates.  Crest Voland is linked to Les Saisies, which is a major Nordic skiing centre, hosting all the cross-country and biathlon events in the 1992 Olympics.  Crest Voland is unspoilt and uncrowded. http://www.crestvoland-cohennoz.com

Les Saisies is situated at an altitude of 1,650 metres on a plateau between Beaufortain and Val d’Arly, the resort of Les Saisies offers a splendid location and an incomparable view of Mont Blanc.  Alpine skiers may quickly exhaust the limits of this domain, but Franck Piccard’s resort is a gateway to a veritable paradise for cross-country skiers.  Versatile, vast, beautiful, well-equipped-there are too few adjectives to describe the Nordic skiing pistes that hosted the official sports events of the 1992 Olympic Games. http://www.lessaisies.com

Megeve.  When people talk of posh French resorts, Courchevel 1850 usually sits at the top of the list but before Courchevel was Megeve.  Megeve is the original glamour resort, frequented by royalty and stars alike.  Now it's on the comeback trail.  Very much a traditional French resort, Megeve is an old town that oozes charisma and traditional Alpine charm.  It boasts gastronomic delights, as well as some of the most varied nightlife of any Alpine venue: clubs, concerts, ice shows and a casino.  Megeve has a modern high speed lift system with 445 kilometres of pistes with 205 different runs for skiers of all levels. http://www.megeve.com

La Clusaz is situated only 20km from Annecy and it’s lake.  La Clusaz has long been a favourite weekend and holiday retreat for skiers from Annecy and Geneva.  Not as well known to the British skiers as some of its neighbours such as Avoriaz, Morzine and indeed Chamonix, it is currently enjoying a much-deserved surge of attention. Spread over five mountains, La Clusaz is a fairly large resort, offering a total of 132km of slopes La Clusaz sits at a comparatively low 1100m, while the highest point is 2600m. http://www.laclusaz.com

Chamonix. Many argue that it's the capital of Alpine sport, with its position next to Mont Blanc, awe-inspiring scenery, a beautiful town, the Vallée Blanche, off-piste terrain to test the very best and the Grands Montets in Argentière.  They'll tell you the nightlife rocks, there are plenty of good restaurants, things to do all year-round and it's just over an hour from Geneva airport. http://www.chamonix.com (Please note - this resort is only available on a True Alpine Excursion)

Flaine is known as the 'White Desert' for its excellent snow, but is closer to 'Grey Monstrosity' when considering its 1960s architecture.  Visitors undoubtedly come for its skiing, rather than its Alpine charm.  As the centrepiece of the Grand Massif ski area (fourth largest ski domain in France), Flaine is linked to Samoens, Morillon and Les Carroz, with 267km of piste in total.  The skiing is extensive and varied, with trees, moguls and motorways. http://www.flaine.com (Please note - this resort is only available on a True Alpine Excursion)

Méribel lies in the middle of the Trois Vallées, one of the most popular ski areas in the Alps. It has 200 lifts, 600km of well linked, all-ability pistes and off-piste to match.  Intermediates will flourish, but the weaker and stronger skiers aren't overlooked, as there is something for everyone. Méribel was founded by a Brit, perhaps partially explaining why it is so popular with his countrymen now. http://www.meribel.net
